About Pulkovo Observatory

Founded by decree of Tsar Nicholas I on hills south of Saint Petersburg. Called the astronomical capital of the world in the 19th century. Friedrich Struve built its unrivaled catalogs of double stars. Destroyed in World War II and rebuilt on the same site.
