About Calar Alto Observatory

Situated in the Sierra Nevada at 2,168 m, among the finest sites in continental Europe. Founded as a German national observatory and run jointly with Spain since 2004. The 3.5 m telescope opened in 1984. Its CARMENES spectrograph hunts planets around red dwarf stars.
