About Thirty Meter Telescope
Planned for Mauna Kea but delayed by protests from Native Hawaiians. The mirror would have 492 segments. Cost estimated at 2.4 billion dollars. Controversial due to the sacred nature of Mauna Kea. Alternative site in the Canary Islands has been proposed.
