About Indian Astronomical Observatory

One of the highest observatories on Earth, at Hanle in Ladakh at 4,500 m. The 2 m Himalayan Chandra Telescope is operated remotely from Bengaluru nearly 2,000 km away. The site hosts the Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment for gamma-ray astronomy. Cold desert skies make it among the darkest sites in Asia.
