About Compton Gamma Ray Observatory
One of the four Great Observatories, with Hubble, Chandra, and Spitzer. At 17 tonnes it was the heaviest scientific payload of its time. Its burst monitors showed gamma-ray bursts come from every direction. Also discovered gamma-ray flashes above thunderstorms. Deorbited into the Pacific in 2000.
