About Byurakan Observatory

Founded by Viktor Ambartsumian on the slopes of Mount Aragats at about 1,400 m. A powerhouse of Soviet-era astrophysics. The 2.6 m telescope was the largest in the region for decades. The First Byurakan Survey cataloged thousands of blue stellar objects and galaxies.
